Mankind has been using solar energy for centuries. The first known pioneer of solar energy was, the Greek scientist, Archimedes. In 212 BC he used the reflection from bronze shields to focus sunlight and to set fire to wooden ships from the Roman Empire. Essentially, he became the father of concentrated solar power.
Over the centuries, our technology has become incredibly sophisticated and the solar industry has proven results that these systems work for saving money over the long run and consistently help create a cleaner environment.
There are several myths that keep America from welcoming the incredible impact of solar energy with open arms:
1) Myth: Solar Energy Requires Vast Amounts Of Land.
Fact: 90% Of U.S. Power Could Be Supplied By Abandoned Industrial Sites
2) Myth: Solar Energy is too expensive to be utilized effectively.
Fact: Solar panel costs have dropped rapidly over the last few decades. With any new technology, history tells us they will continue to do so.
3) Myth: The U.S. Solar industry is “on the brink of collapse!”
Fact: Solar installations have increased substantially in the last decade and the U.S is set to install more than 2,500 mW, the equivalent of 2 power plants!
The industry for solar energy is still young. It is up to all of us, as warriors for all forms of renewable energy, to continue our efforts to get the word out about the facts of renewable energy.
